This Weekend: Shabbat Evening Service, Cheder field Trip & Tu B’Shevat seder.

  • Shabbat Evening Service – this Friday 7th February 6-7:30pm

Please arrive from 6pm for a 6:30pm start. We will finish by around 7:30pm as usual.

  • Cheder field trip East End Walk – this Saturday 8th February – 11am in Hackney or 12noon in the East End

A guided walk focusing on the lives of new Jewish immigrants in the East End at the turn of the 20th century including the places that were important to them, the challenges they faced around work, education, housing, language and culture, and episodes of some significant individuals. After the walk we will celebrate our heritage by visiting Brick Lane bagel bakery!

Parents are welcome to join. The walk will cost £6 per person. This event is open to all Kehillah children and young people up to the age of 16. Meet at 11am at Rob and Omar’s if traveling from Hackney or meet in the East End at 12noon. Please let us know in advance you are atteding and contact Ashleigh the Administrator for address information.

  • Erev Tu B’shevat seder in member’s home – this Sunday 9th February 5-7pm

Join us for a Tu b’shevat seder to celebrate the new year for the trees. We will also be discussing the relevance of this lovely festival for our Kehillah and the wider world.  Please do bring some fruit to share and/or wine/grape juice.  There will be activities that children can join in with, so ages are welcome.

Our celebration will be taking place at a member’s home in Barnsbury area of Islington. Information on accessibility: there is one step up to the member’s home. To slightly correct previous accessability information distributed, we are able organise the Seder on one level so that no further stairs need to be climbed by those attending.

Please contact Ashleigh the Administrator by 2pm on Friday 7th February to be sent the address. If there are accessability difficulties, it would be useful to know in advance as we can organise our celebrations to take place on the ground floor.

  • Shabbat Morning service with Nasdiya’s Bat Mitzvah – Saturday 15th February – eariler time of 10:30am

Please join us in celebrating Nasdiya’s batmitzvah! We will be starting our service a little earlier at 10:30 am. Nasdiya’s family would also like to invite the community to a kiddush, which they will be providing after the service.

  • Special Memorial Kiddush for our member Davina Good – Shabbat Morning Service, Saturday 7th March

In memory of our long standing member Davina Good, who sadly died last November, a special memorial Kiddush will be taking place after our Shabbat Morning Service on Saturday 7th March. Davina was a familiar face at many Kehillah events and this will be an oportunity for us to come together as a community to remember her alongside members of her family.

  • D’vrei Torah Archive – Have you given a D’var Torah & have a copy to share?

We would like anyone who has given a D’var Torah and has a copy in either written or sound file format, who would be willing to share their words online, to please email text or sound files over to Omar. We are currently looking to expand our D’vrei Torah archive on our website.

  • Adult Education

    3rd March 2020 @ 7:00 pm8:30 pm

This four-week block of adult education is called “Trans-formations: The multiple genders of the Talmud”. As our society explores new and varied concepts of gender and transgender identity, this four-week course will introduce key texts in Rabbinic literature – the Tosefta and the Talmud – which discuss intersex, gender-indeterminate and gender-nonconforming bodies and their halachic status. What space do our texts create for trans, non-binary and queer people today?
