On Being Jewish in the UK Today

Rabbi Shulamit Ambalu says

On Being UK Jews today – January 2015
This is an exciting and challenging time to be a progressive Jews in the UK. I believe that we are safe here, and that we play an active part in the wider society as well as in our own communities. Of course, there is a certain Anglo antisemitism – the raised eyebrow, the word spoken under the breath, as well as opportunist attacks on members of the more visible Jewish community. But then again, we also have racism in this country. The recent events in Paris and in Belgium should inspire us more than ever to engage widely with other faith groups, and to establish bonds of friendship and support with the majority, because terrorism seeks to polarise and radicalise,. We and our relationships across communities show that reality is very far from the extremist vision.
