Holocaust Memorial Day Talk & Tu B’Shvat Evening – Wednesday 27th Jan 7-8:30pm

To commemorate Holocaust Memorial Day and in honour of Tu B’Shvat, we are hosting a very exciting guest speaker and local neighbour to our Kehillah, Dr Anna Hájková, who will be presenting and doing a Q&A with us on her new book on the History of Theresienstadt, The Last Ghetto. Terezín, as it was known in Czech, or Theresienstadt as it was known in German, was operated by the Nazis between November 1941 and May 1945 as a transit ghetto for Central and Western European Jews before their deportation for murder in the East. Terezín was the last ghetto to be liberated, one day after the end of World War II.

After the talk, we will do a short ritual for Tu B’Shvat, the festival of the trees, to conclude the evening.

Post-B’nai Mitzvah Joint Youth Afternoon with New Stoke Newington Shul, our Masorti community neighbour – Sunday 21st Feb 2-3pm

Come meet other local Jewish young people from our neighbouring Masorti Jewish community, New Stoke Newington Shul, and debate gender identity in an interesting part of the Jewish tradition — crossdressing, what is it and what does the Torah say about it? All young people welcome — specifically aimed at post b’nai mitzvah, ages 13-18.

Antiracism Working Group – Tuesday 2nd February 7:30-8:45

All welcome. As has become our Kehillah minhag (custom), these meetings are centred around three things: first Torah, studying a small bit of Jewish learning to ground ourselves in the work; then T’shuva (Reflection or Self-Accounting), where we dicuss a more focused anti-racist question as it relates to ourselves and the broader community, with an eye to what should change; and then finally Action, where we decide on concrete next steps to take to change our Kehillah.

New ark design and manufacturing

Our old ark which held our Torah scrolls was too big to be stored in our new cupboard at the New Community Rooms so we are now in the process of designing a new ark. A few community members have worked on a design for us and we are now looking for recommendations of tradespeople who are interested to provide a quote for the work to manufacture the ark.

Leo Baeck College Spring 2021 progamming

Booking is now open for Leo Baeck College’s Spring 2021 Lehrhaus programme. All courses are taught by outstanding faculty and specialist teachers from the Progressive Rabbinic College. Programme includes classes on modern & biblical Hebrew, classical Greek, Jewish studies and more.
