  • Erev Shavuot: Speech and Silence in the Book of Ruth

    A chance to listen to voices in the book of Ruth: an evening of text study and discussion, with Tom Lowenstein, a writer interested in the German-Jewish intersection, Ruth Sheldon, who shares a name with our key character, and Rabbi Shulamit.

    Torah means teaching, and it is also our story. We will learn late into the night, in anticipation of the moment of revelation that marks Shavuot.

    Please bring cheesecake and dairy goodies to share.

  • Innovation Shabbat: Creative leadership, staying on the treadmill

    Innovation Shabbat: Staying on the Treadmill - Creativity in Leadership and Innovation with Jackie Richards and others.

    Celebrating and learning with Jackie Richards, the first Chair of our community, who has completed a DProf focusing on interdisciplinary research into dance, the creative arts, and older people. We will have the chance to exprience Jackie's unique leadership style and how she uses this in her progressive Jewish values. This is an experiential morning. Also, a chance to warm up physically with Pilates led by our member Daniel Zylbersztajn. Followed by celebratory kiddush.

    Here's the schedule for our Innovation Shabbat:

    9:45-10:30am: Warden's and leader's learning - Mi-sheberach, reciting prayers in thanks, choosing and creating them, practising Hebrew.

    10:00am: Children's Hebrew - Please be on time and bring your book!

    10:45am: Kol b'Yachad children's service - creative, musical, fun and short.

    11:00am: Innovation Shabbat: Creative Leadership, staying on the treadmill, with Jackie Richards, followed by a special kiddush celebrating Jackie's DProf, doctorate in professional studies.

    11:00am-12:30pm: Cheder
