Shabbat services and events of interest beyond our community

Our next Shabbat Morning Service is Tomorrow, Saturday 20th October – join us for a chance to take a step back and a deep breath. There will be no Children’s Hebrew or cheder due to the half term break, but please bring something vegetarian for Kiddush.

Our next Shabbat evening service is on Friday 26th October. Please arrive from 6pm for a 6:30 start.

There are a few events outside of our community this week that may also be of interest to our members:

As part of Black History Month, some of our members are attending a Race in Religion: Revealing Black History Tour at the Jewish Museum. The tour will examine items in the collection relating to Black History and Black Jewish History on Sunday 21st October. For further information and booking, please visit the Jewish Museum website here.

Community members have also been invited by Safe Passage to a screening of short films, followed by discussion, about the welcome child migrants and refugees have received across the UK – from those who came to Hackney on the Kindertransport to Syrian children on the Isle of Bute, to young people who travelled unaccompanied across Europe and through the Calais ‘Jungle.’ Further information on this free event can be found here.

On 5th November, the New Israel Fund is hosting an evening with Tamara Newman of Israel’s Hotline for Refugees and Migrants who will be exploring the issue of asylum seekers in Israel. This event is in response to the Israeli government’s announcement last year that it is planning to forcibly deport African asylum seekers to a third country, which brought tens of thousands of Israeli’s onto the streets in support of asylum seekers. Further information on this event can be found on this flyer.
