Join us to learn about Torah and Shavuot this week

Our Come Learn with Me adult education session this Wednesday 17th will be discussing Torah and Shavuot:

6:30-7:30pm Hebrew for Beginners – It’s not too late to join our friendly class, and learn from scratch or remember that rusty Hebrew.

7:30-9:30pm Torah and Shavuot… what is Torah and where does it come from? Grappling with this philosophical, spiritual and even political question. All welcome.

At the New Community Rooms as usual.

Next Wednesday’s session will look at Shavuot as a model of Jewish marriage (24th May).

On Friday we have a special Friday Night Dinner for b’nei Mitzvah families. If you are a Kehillah family with a child aged 11+, you will already have received your invitation – but have you confirmed that you are coming and emailed Rabbi Shulamit with your child’s date of birth? And if for any reason you haven’t received an invitation to this event, please also let her know!

Importantly, please note that there is no morning service this Shabbat (20th May). Our next morning service will be on 3rd June, our Innovation Shabbat: Staying on the Treadmill, Creativity in Leadership and Innovation with Jackie Richards and others. Save the date!

Meanwhile, it’s a month to go until the Liberal Judaism Day of Celebration on Sunday 11th June, at Northwood and Pinner Liberal Synagogue. The event will be an exciting day of discussion on the question of whether Liberal Judaism is inherently political Judaism. “Learn with Liberal Judaism’s dynamic and learned rabbis, hear from experts in their fields and look out for news on our exciting and influential key note speakers.” You can find find the schedule online by clicking here, and find logistical information and book tickets by clicking here. LJ are also organising a Day of Celebrating Liberal Jewish Music on Shabbat 10th June (for more information click here) as well as a Special Friday Night Service on Friday 9th June – more information on that as I get it.

Art Exhibition

LJ are also accepting submissions for the LJ Day of Celebration Art Exhibition. They do not have to be based on this year’s theme (although this is obviously encouraged!) and will be on display in the NPLS Etz Chayim Gallery throughout the day. If you’d like to take part, please contact Tom at montagu@liberaljudaism.org.
